Russia calls US efforts to expand dominance unpromising
(Baonghean.vn) - US efforts to expand its dominant role to many parts of the world are unpromising and reflect the "go-it-alone" policy that the US is pursuing, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said when meeting his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the sidelines of ASEAN ministerial meetings.

The Minister noted the "self-indulgent attitude shown by our American colleagues." He commented that the United States "is always trying to assert its dominant role" in all new points around the globe.
“And every time, those who follow this move understand the unpromising nature of the policy, according to which you can turn a blind eye to any situation, a crisis created by the United States, in the hope that everything will turn out not so bad. No, the Americans have chosen a policy of suppressing all manifestations of autonomy,” Lavrov asserted.
“Just as they decided to turn Ukraine into a threat to the Russian Federation and for many years ignored the racist policy of the Kiev regime, which is aimed at eliminating everything Russian. Just as when Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan, they ignored all their own principles, which they publicly proclaimed and convinced everyone to adhere to, even deceiving themselves. Similarly, in the case of Ukraine, they violated the principles of indivisible security, which they signed at the highest level and which they are now essentially trampling on,” Lavrov added.
Referring to Russia-China relations, Foreign Minister Lavrov said that the strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing is one of the pillars of the movement to respect the law in international relations, first and foremost the principles of the United Nations Charter.
"I am convinced that our strategic partnership is one of the pillars of the movement to uphold international law... First of all, it is the UN Charter, which proclaims the fundamental principle of sovereign equality of states. The United States is violating this, violating this principle every day everywhere, and this will of course lead to a reaction. We are joining the People's Republic of China in the newly created Group of Friends to defend the UN Charter. I think this is a promising idea and should be expanded, we believe that new members will join the activities of this group," he said.
Foreign Minister Lavrov recalled that this was his third meeting with his Chinese counterpart within a month. Lavrov noted that he plans to discuss with Foreign Minister Wang Yi the current state of bilateral relations and the results of the implementation of agreements reached between the leaders of the Russian Federation and China.
