Russia and Iran have warned that they will respond with military action if US President Donald Trump continues to launch missiles into Syria.

After the US launched dozens of Tomahawk missiles at an airport in Syria on April 7 in response to the chemical attack in Khan Sheikhoun earlier this week, the coalition supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad issued a joint statement threatening to respond to "any violation of the red line, no matter who it is."

"What the US has launched in Syria is crossing a red line. From now on, we will respond with force to any aggressor or violator of that limit, regardless of who it is. The US knows how well we can respond," Independent quoted the announcement from the joint operations center of the two countries.

US President Donald Trump said the attack on the Al Shayrat base, near Homs, with 60 Tomahawk missiles "represents the world". The base is believed to have been used by Syrian forces to launch a chemical attack that killed more than 70 people.

Now, President Putin and Iranian leader Hassan Rouhani have called for an investigation into the chemical attack in Syria.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on April 9 that Moscow had failed to implement the 2013 agreement to secure and destroy chemical weapons in Syria.

According to plan, in the next few days, Mr. Tillerson will go to Moscow to meet with Russian officials.
