Russia is not optimistic about Prime Minister May's successor.
(Baonghean.vn) - On May 24, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Senate Konstantin Kosachyov said that the future of Russia-UK relations after Prime Minister Theresa May's decision to resign will depend on who replaces her, but affirmed that no candidate for this position creates optimism.
On his Facebook account, Mr. Kosachyov stated: "The future development of events related to the Russian-British bilateral relations will depend on who will take over as Prime Minister (replacing Mrs. May). There are many speculations, but in general they do not create an optimistic atmosphere. The outgoing British Prime Minister is best remembered for his shameful statements, in other words, baseless accusations against Russia, which many European countries interpreted as a sufficient reason to expel Russian diplomats."

Earlier the same day, Mrs. May announced that she would resign as leader of the British ruling Conservative Party on June 7, but pledged to continue carrying out her duties as Prime Minister until a new Conservative leader is appointed. Mrs. May said that the Conservative Party will begin the campaign to elect a new leader on June 10.
