Former Soviet leader Nikita Khruschev's son Sergey said that the modern Soviet Union and Russia are "close" and cannot compare with the power of the United States, the Las Vegas Sun writes.

The Russian and American scientist, who lived in the United States since the 1990s, recounted the history of relations between the two powers, not forgetting the role of his father in this process.

According to Sergey Khrushchev, in the confrontation between the two countries the United States acted as a "world policeman", and the USSR decided not to show fear and weakness. Moscow built its policy on this principle. As examples of implementing such a policy, the scientist mentioned the Soviet rejection of the initiative to send an American-Russian mission to the Moon and the crisis in the Caribbean, the publication writes.

The end of the Cold War showed the "difference in culture and values" between the Soviet Union and the United States, Mr. Khrushchev said. Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev saw the event as establishing friendly and allied relations between the countries and partners that US President Reagan - as Washington's victory in the confrontation.
