(Baonghean.vn) - The information was released after the European Commission confirmed a ban on Russian citizens from bringing vehicles across the bloc's borders, even for personal use or short-term travel.

According to RT news agency, the Russian Embassy in Helsinki has urged Russian citizens not to use cars with Russian license plates when traveling to Finland, citing Western sanctions that allow the seizure of these personal vehicles.

In a statement posted on its website on September 10, the embassy said: “Taking into account the possible risks, we advise Russian citizens to avoid traveling to Finland in cars with Russian license plates.”

The announcement came after the European Commission (EC) confirmed that Russians are banned from taking any vehicles across the bloc's borders, including for personal use or short-term trips.

Earlier this year, German media reported that police and customs officials in the country were confiscating Russian-registered cars. Recent immigrants to Germany were among those whose property was confiscated. Earlier this week, the Russian Embassy in Berlin warned its citizens against traveling to Germany, citing the “seizure” of cars.

The EU first imposed sanctions on Moscow in 2014, after Crimea voted to secede from Ukraine and join Russia following a Western-backed coup in Kiev. The sanctions have been significantly expanded since Russia launched its military campaign in Ukraine in February 2022, according to RT.

Moscow has repeatedly criticized the sanctions as “illegal,” calling the seizure of Russian assets “theft” and promising retaliatory measures.
