"According to data from the Russian Ministry of Defense, from August 1, 1962 to August 16, 1964, 64 Soviet citizens were killed in Cuba," the ministry's statement said.

The Defense Ministry decided to release the data on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the transfer of Soviet ballistic missiles to Cuba. This was in response to the deployment of US missiles in Türkiye and Italy, as well as the threat of a US military invasion of Cuba.

Previously, the exact number of Soviet military losses in the campaign had not been announced.

Exactly 60 years ago, on September 9, 1962, as part of the secret operation "Anadyr", the first batch of Soviet ballistic missiles was delivered to Cuba, followed by the Soviet Union providing nuclear warheads.

The idea of deploying Soviet missiles with nuclear warheads on this island was initiated by First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union Nikita Khrushchev./.
