Russia sets conditions for extending gas transit through Ukraine
(Baonghean.vn) - Moscow admits the possibility of extending Ukraine's transit after 2024 if demand continues in Europe and Ukraine's gas pipeline system is in operation, said Dmitry Birichevsky, Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The current gas transit contract through Ukraine expires in 2024.
"The EU has declared its policy of abandoning Russian natural gas. This means abandoning Ukrainian transit and depriving Kiev of income. If demand from European consumers remains and the Ukrainian gas transportation system is operational, then Russia will be ready to consider, among other options, the possibility of continuing transit through Ukraine," - Birichevsky said.

He stressed that Russia is fulfilling all its obligations under the current contract, recalling that the current transit is "restricted by the Ukrainian authorities, who have refused to transport gas through the ''Sokhranivka'' gas metering station.
Germany will stop buying coal from Russia completely from August and will give up Russian oil from December 31, German Deputy Finance Minister Jorg Kukis announced. Previously, Russia accounted for 40% of Germany's coal and oil imports.
After Russia launched a special military operation to demilitarize and de-fascize Ukraine, the West increased sanctions pressure on Moscow.
