Russia receives 6 more months of sanctions from the European Union

The European Council has extended sanctions by six months until September 15, imposing sanctions on 150 Russian individuals and 38 entities, “due to the situation around Ukraine,” the Council said in a statement.

On 12 March, the European Council extended for another 6 months the restrictive measures against actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, until 15 September 2018.

"The measures include asset freezes and travel restrictions. Sanctions continue to apply to 150 individuals and 38 entities," the press release said.

The corresponding document will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 13 March, - the Council said.

The political decision to extend the sanctions package, which is due to expire on March 15, was adopted by the Ambassadors of the 28 EU member states on February 21.
