“We have not forgotten the tube of white powder (which US Secretary of State Colin Powell presented in 2003 at the UN Security Council as evidence that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction, which was not later confirmed). We still remember it. And therefore, we have learned to be restrained in our assessments and prefer to soberly assess the situation, waiting until some convincing data appears. To call such data secret, in this case, is completely absurd,” Peskov said in an interview with the “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” program on the “Rossiya-1” channel.
“Such incidents have the potential to really shake the world economy, and therefore, the baseless accusations here are unlikely to be accepted,” he said.
On June 13, two oil tankers, the Front Altair and the Kokuka Courageous, were attacked in the Gulf of Oman. There were explosions and fires on board. The crew of the stricken vessel was evacuated to Iranian territory and a US destroyer. There were 11 Russian citizens on the Front Altair and none of them were injured.
