"In accordance with the instructions of President Vladimir Putin, Russia has decided to extend the humanitarian ceasefire in Aleppo for another 24 hours. This will be carried out with the support of the Syrian government," Mr. Shoigu said.
Previously, the Russian air force and the Syrian army were ordered to halt their attacks until 7 p.m. on October 20 (local time). With this new ceasefire, gunfire will not break out in Aleppo until 7 p.m. on October 21 (local time).
Residents in Aleppo have been instructed to evacuate the fighting area in the city through six corridors, in addition to two other corridors reserved for rebels who surrender.
The international community has been making many moves to try to end the conflict in Syria and resolve the humanitarian crisis considered the worst in the history of this Middle Eastern country.
