"In the liberated areas of Eastern Ghouta, the Syrian government army found many containers of chlorine, a most terrible chemical weapon, originating from Germany and smoke grenades produced in, please note, the English city of Salisbury,"AFPTodayquoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakhorova.
Salisbury is where the poisoning of former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter took place on March 4. London accused Russia of being behind the poisoning, escalating diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
Ms. Zakhorova's statement was made in the context of the US, UK, and France coalition launching a missile attack on Syria on April 14 in response to the country's military being accused of using chemical weapons in Douma, Eastern Ghouta, killing 70 people.
Russia and SyriaThe chemical attack in Douma was a "staged act" staged by the rebels and the White Helmets when they were cornered. The rebels later agreed to withdraw from Douma and Eastern Ghouta after a long siege.
