According to Russian experts, this type of mine is made of many different active substances, of which aluminium is the main component. When the mine is thrown, these active substances are released and extinguish the rapidly spreading forest fires.
The special feature of this type of mine is that it can extinguish small fires from a distance, helping to minimize risks and dangers for firefighters, as well as reduce the operating costs of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
"For hard-to-reach areas. Traditional firefighting methods require the participation of paratroopers, building routes around the fire area as well as manned aircraft. Meanwhile, the new mine can be dropped from drones," a scientist involved in the mine development project said.
In addition to firefighting, the new mine is also used to neutralize toxic gases in cases of chemical leaks.
