Russia decides to supply S-300 air defense missile system to Syria
(Baonghean.vn) - On September 24, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov affirmed that Russia's decision to provide the S-300 air defense system to Syria is only aimed at enhancing security for the Russian military in this Arab country.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Peskov stated: "Obviously, Russia's actions are necessary to ensure the security of its military personnel. These actions are not aimed at any third country, but only to protect our military."
The Kremlin representative criticized that the shooting down of the Russian plane in Syria would destroy the relationship between Moscow and Tel Aviv, and affirmed that the shooting down was part of Israel's "premeditated" actions.
Mr. Peskov added that the response measures in the Il-20 plane crash have been actively discussed at the level of military experts as well as the Russian leadership over the past week.
On the same day, in a statement, the Syrian Presidential Office said that in a phone call, Russian President Vladimir Putin informed his counterpart Bashar al-Assad that Moscow would provide its ally with a Syrian air defense missile system.
The Israeli military declined to comment on Russia's plans to supply S-300 air defense systems to Syria.
