Russia ready for diplomatic solution to conflict in Ukraine
(Baonghean.vn)- Russia has never refused negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and is ready to use diplomatic solutions, but Moscow is not begging for anything, said Dmitry Polyansky - First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations.
In late January, Bloomberg reported, citing sources close to the Kremlin, that Russian President Vladimir Putin had reportedly sent a signal to the United States through unofficial channels that he was ready to negotiate an end to the “special military operation” in Ukraine.

Responding to a request for comment on the recent Western media report that Moscow is reportedly almost begging the West for a chance to start negotiations on Ukraine, Polyansky said: “First of all, of course, we are not begging for anything.”
"We have repeatedly said at different levels that we are ready for a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis. In other words, to ensure that our goals and objectives within the framework of the special military operation are achieved by diplomatic means," he stressed. At the same time, Polyansky pointed out that Russia has never refused to negotiate.
“But since no one is ready to carry them out with us seriously, we have to implement the goals of the special operation “on the ground” by military means. This formula has been confirmed many times, and clearly shows our attitude towards possible negotiations,” Polyansky said.
Sharing the same view, First Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Rashid Nurgaliyev affirmed that Russia has never opposed negotiations with Ukraine, but now that process cannot take place due to Kiev's stance.
“Today, the voices in favor of a peaceful political settlement in Ukraine, even at the cost of losing part of its territory, are growing louder,” Nurgaliyev said in an interview with aif.ru. “Russia has never opposed the proposal to resume negotiations. Unfortunately, this process is now impossible due to the stance of the Kiev authorities and personally the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who signed a decree prohibiting negotiations with our country.”
“The conflict has never cooled down, and before the start of the special military operation, on the contrary, the situation escalated even more. The laws passed and the actions of Ukrainian politicians regarding Donbass are aimed only at escalation,” Nurgaliyev said.
At the end of February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Minsk agreements no longer existed. Moscow recognized the independence of the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic. As the head of state pointed out at the time, the agreements were "dead" even before the recognition of the People's Republics due to the Kiev authorities' unwillingness to implement these documents.
