Russia is about to have new sniper weapons
Russian servicemen and members of the Federal Protective Service are about to receive a new sniper complex called “Tochnost” (Accuracy). Having successfully passed state tests, the new sniper rifle is now ready for mass production.

The basic model of the new complex is the T-5000 modification of the Russian company "Orsis". It was officially presented in 2011 as a high-precision combined weapon for hunting, sports and law enforcement. From the very beginning "Orsis" did not hide its desire to supply its products to the Russian law enforcement.
During the work, about 200 changes were introduced into the basic design of the T-5000. As a result, it was adopted as a sniper complex weapons, sights and ammunition. Everything is exclusively Russian-made. The "Precision" complex was created in two versions for the Ministry of Defense and the Federal Service for the Protection of the Russian Federation, taking into account the special requirements of both customers.
Currently, snipers from different Russian forces are using different types of weapons.
The most popular is the Dragunov (SVD) semi-automatic self-loading sniper rifle chambered in 7.62 mm, which entered service with the Soviet army in 1963. With the optical sight from the SVD, it is possible to aim and fire at ranges up to 1300 meters. The rifle's magazine consists of 10 separate rounds, and can only fire single shots. Over the past decade, several modifications have been produced for the rifle: folding stock, "rear magazine" arrangement (the trigger is located in front, in front of the magazine and firing mechanism).
The latest version, the SVDM, is not only for the military but also for special forces and police. Despite its age and a series of shortcomings, the Dragunov remains one of the best sniper rifles in the world for widespread military use. It is no coincidence that the Dragunov is well known in 30 countries, including Vietnam.
The first purely Russian-designed "sniper" rifles were the SV-98 "Izhmash" steel gun (7.62 mm caliber, suitable for both Russian and Finnish .338 Lapua Magnum ammunition), as well as the MTs-116M rifle of the Research and Design Center for Sporting and Hunting Rifles (Tula city) (also 7.62 mm caliber but only for Russian ammunition).
Both rifles were produced in limited quantities on orders from law enforcement agencies such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Guards Service and the Federal Security Service. In the late 1990s, for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Tula weapons specialists created the OTs-48K sniper rifle. Unfortunately, despite its compactness, its inconvenient operation and unattractive appearance prevented this weapon from becoming widely available.
The first Russian large-caliber semi-automatic sniper rifle was the OSV-96 (12.7 mm caliber) introduced in the mid-1990s. In 2000, a rear-loading magazine variant appeared, and four years later a fully improved version, the large-caliber army sniper rifle, known in Russian as the ASVK, was introduced.
The main function of the "heavy sniper rifle" is to counter other sniper rifles (powerful bullets can penetrate the wall where the sniper is hiding), destroy fire points and lightly armored vehicles. There is an opinion that in 12.7 mm caliber guns it is possible to fire with special bullets to targets at a distance of one and a half kilometers and further.
There is another class of sniper rifles, which are weapons for silent shooting. For example, by order of the Federal Security Service of Russia, the Vykhlop sniper complex was created, which means a large-caliber specialized sniper rifle "Exhaust Pipe" or also known as VKS or VSSK. This is a Russian high-powered sniper weapon consisting of a 12.7 mm caliber gun and a special cartridge designed for it. The effective range of the shot is 600 meters.
The function is to eliminate protected targets (cars, unarmored vehicles) as well as personnel wearing high-grade body armor. Earlier, in 1987, a compact silenced sniper rifle called "Vintorez" with a 9 mm caliber was created for special forces units. In 1994, on the basis of this compact silenced rifle, Russian weapons specialists developed a special sniper rifle VSS-94 with a similar caliber. The characteristics of both rifles are almost identical, but the VSS-94 has the advantage of being significantly cheaper.
