(Baonghean.vn) - On March 11, RIA news agency quoted Sergey Chemezov, head of Russia's Rostec Technology Group, as saying that the delivery of the first batch of S-300 missile defense systems to Iran will take place in August or September this year.

In 2007, Moscow and Tehran signed an $800 million deal to deliver five S-300 missile systems to Iran.

However, in 2010, Russia postponed the contract and explained that it was in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolution.

On January 16, 2016, when the US, the United Nations and the European Union lifted sanctions on Iran after reaching an agreement on Tehran's nuclear issue, Russia announced that it would transfer S-300 missiles to Iran.

The S-300 is a long-range air defense missile system that can detect 100 targets simultaneously and destroy 12 targets at the same time. The S-300 was put into use by the Soviet Union in 1979 and is capable of destroying aircraft and ballistic missiles.
