Russia will not offer an explanation for the missile incident in Poland.
(Baonghean.vn) - Immediately after Poland made statements about Russian missiles entering its airspace, Russian Counselor in Poland Andrei Ordash said that Russia would not provide an explanation until there was concrete evidence.
"Until there is concrete evidence, we will not offer any explanation because these accusations are unfounded," Russian attaché in Poland Andrei Ordash stated on December 29.
The Russian diplomat reiterated that this situation is reminiscent of the incident in November 2022, when a missile landed on Polish territory, killing two people. Warsaw immediately attempted to accuse Russia of the incident, but all evidence pointed to it being a Ukrainian missile.
Earlier that day, December 29, Major General Maciej Klisz, commander of Polish military operations, stated that a Russian missile had entered Polish airspace at approximately 7:00 AM (local time). The missile penetrated about 40 kilometers, traveled through Polish airspace for three minutes, and then returned to Ukraine.
Shortly afterward, the Polish General Staff issued a similar statement. General Wieslaw Kukula, Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, asserted that all indications pointed to a Russian missile having entered Polish airspace. However, Kukula offered no explanation or specific evidence.
From the United States, the White House has offered technical assistance to Poland in investigating the missile incident that entered its airspace. President Joe Biden is closely monitoring the situation. On December 29th, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke by phone with the head of the Polish National Security Agency, Jacek Siewiera. Sullivan expressed U.S. solidarity with Poland – a close ally of Washington – and pledged support when needed.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg wrote on social media on December 29th that he had spoken with Polish President Andrzej Duda about the missile incident. NATO stands in solidarity with its ally and is closely monitoring the situation.
