The Russian National Guard has created a special marine brigade in Kerch to protect the Crimean Bridge, - said General Viktor Zolotov, head of the Russian National Guard.

To ensure the security of the Crimean Bridge, a strategically important bridge connecting the Crimean Peninsula with the Krasnodar Territory, a special marine brigade was created in the Kerch Strait.

"The brigade possesses a large arsenal of means capable of preventing any sabotage activities from both land and sea," said General Zolotov.

The Crimean Bridge, also known as the Kerch Strait Bridge, is a pair of parallel bridges built by the Russian Federation, connecting the Taman Peninsula in Krasnodar Krai Oblast (Russia) and the Kerch Peninsula in Crimea. The bridge system includes both road and rail links. At 18.1 km (11.2 mi) long, it is the longest bridge in both Russia and Europe.

Planning for the bridge began in 2014, after Russia annexed Crimea. In January 2015, a multi-billion dollar contract to build the bridge was awarded to Arkady Rotenberg's SGM Group. Ground was broken for the bridge in May 2015; the road portion of the bridge opened to traffic on May 16, 2018...
