According to Sputnik news agency, citing the spokesman for Russia's Western Military District, Colonel Oleg Kochetkov, on June 25, the military district will be equipped with an unspecified number of advanced S-400 Triumf and Pantsir-S air defense systems before the end of 2015.

The S-400 Triumf is Russia's next-generation air defense system, carrying three different types of missiles capable of destroying airborne targets at both short and extremely long ranges.

Meanwhile, the Pantsir-S1 (SA-22 Greyhound) is a surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft gun system with short- to medium-range capabilities.

This system was first put into service in 2012 and will gradually replace the Tunguska self-propelled air defense system.

Russia is currently implementing a $325 billion weapons modernization program aimed at modernizing 70% of its military arsenal by 2020.
