The FSB announcement stated: “The Russian Federal Security Service, together with the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, has dismantled the activities of an extremist group created by Erol Veliyev - assistant to Ukrainian MP Dzhemilev on the instructions of Chubarov, the leader of the group 'Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars', an organization banned in Russia, with the support of the Security Service of Ukraine.”

According to the FSB, the extremist group planned to commit crimes “to intimidate pro-Russian Crimean Tatars and aggravate ethnic tensions” in Crimea.

The FSB also stressed that members of this extremist group used petrol bombs to set fire to the house of Crimean Muslim cleric Emirali Ablaev last January. According to the FSB, members of this group were also promised a reward of 500 USD for each operation carried out in Crimea.
