Russia unveils amphibious aircraft for firefighting

According to TASS news agency (Russia), on October 22, Deputy Governor of Rostov province Aleksandr Grebensikov said that for the first time two BE-200 amphibious aircraft will be launched in Rostov this year.

The BE-200 has been designed over 15 years, in order to find the basic shape suitable for the purpose of extinguishing forest fires with liquid.

In addition, the BE-200 also has the function of transporting people, searching and rescuing, and cleaning up the environment after a fire with minimal human resources involved.

According to Mr. Grebensikov, the BE-200 aircraft model has been licensed by Irkut Corporation to Beriev Taganroxky Aviation Engineering Complex Joint Stock Company to produce and test at the end of 2014, moving towards mass production depending on demand.

Currently, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Ministry of Defense have ordered the two BE-200s mentioned above and Mr. Grebensikov believes that the demand for this type of aircraft will increase in the coming time./.
