Russia declares response to NATO expansion

Moscow is ready to respond to NATO's expanding infrastructure towards Russia's borders, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, commenting on Warsaw's plans to build a US base in Poland.

“In general, when we see the gradual expansion of the NATO military structure towards our borders, when NATO infrastructure is directly approaching our borders, this certainly does not contribute to security and stability on the continent in any way,” Peskov said.

“On the contrary, such expansionist steps inevitably lead to counter-reactions from the Russian side to balance the position of parity each time it is violated in this way,” he noted.

The establishment of a US military base in Poland is a sovereign decision, but the consequences for the entire security on the continent are obvious, Peskov asserted.
