Russia vows to retaliate against new US sanctions targeting Putin's relatives

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 7 that Russia will certainly respond to new US sanctions against Russia and relatives of President Vladimir Putin.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Dmitry Peskov said: "Russia will certainly respond and do it in the necessary way."

Earlier on April 6, the US announced sanctions against Russia's leading public and private banks, as well as the daughters ofPresident Putin- people who US officials say are involved in activities linked to the Russian government.

The newly announced US sanctions also include the daughter and wife of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Washington also bans Americans from investing in Russia and targets Russian financial institutions and Kremlin officials.

US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo said on April 7 that Washington will continue to use sanctions in an effort to force Russia to move towards a diplomatic solution for Ukraine./.
