Russia declares to the US: attacking any part of Syria would be "crossing the forbidden line"
Russia and the US-led coalition had contacts at the military leadership level shortly before the missile strikes on Syrian territory.
Moscow has warned that missile strikes on certain areas of Syria would be considered "crossing the forbidden line", Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Sputnik.
"Even before the planned attack on Syria by the Western trio (US, UK, France), the head of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov made it clear that we will respond to the military actions of the so-called coalition that harm Russian soldiers in a straightforward and tough manner. Let me add that at that time we will consider not only missiles, but also aircraft carriers as legitimate targets for retaliation. This has been said clearly," said Mr. Lavrov.
“Then there was only contact at the level of military leadership, between generals, between our representatives and the command of the US-led coalition. They were informed about what we call the ‘red lines’, including the ‘red lines’ on the ground, geographically. And, in any case, the results showed that they did not cross those ‘forbidden lines,’” the Russian Foreign Minister stressed.
