Russian and Ukrainian TV channels “Russia 1” and NewsOne will host a live telecast. The news was announced by host Dmitry Kiselev on the “News Week” program.

The project is called "Need to Talk". The space “bridge” will be established on July 12 at 18:00 and will last two hours. The exchange will involve citizens of both countries.

Mr. Kiselev recalled that in the 1980s there was a teleconference between the United States and the Soviet Union, hosted by journalists Phil Donahue and Vladimir Pozner. This allowed Americans and Soviet citizens to communicate and exchange views with each other during the Cold War.

The Ukrainian authorities have spoken out about the teleconference with undisguised hostility. Radical party leader Oleg Lyashko and Verkhovnay Rada deputy Anna Gopko called for a review of the issue at a meeting of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, with the politicians declaring the potential teleconference “a Kremlin attempt to invade Ukraine’s media space.”
