2001 was a turning point in John's career as an artist.

The first time I drew, I never thought it would be as precise and complex as the drawings when I could see them.

When I get out of my comfort zone, I think the eyes really only do two things for an artist - they help determine where to paint on the canvas and they help identify different colors.

All the paint bottles and tubes in my studio are embossed, and when I mix my colors I use ratios like I would in cooking. In other words, I calculate the different parts of each color that make up a desired color. It's like using a recipe to bake a cake. If you use the right ingredients in the right proportions, the result will always be the same.

In the art shows I participated in, I never told anyone that I was blind. I didn't tell people I was blind not because I was ashamed, but because I didn't want it to affect the way they appreciated the art.

Blindness can be a dead end for any artist. But not John Bramblitt. The loss of sight actually helped him discover his hidden genius and develop his remarkable talent.
