Nghe An Industry and Trade sector affirms its important position in the economy
(Baonghean.vn) - On October 13, 1945, just one month after the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born, President Ho Chi Minh wrote a letter to the Vietnamese Industry and Commerce sector. Then, on May 14, 1951, in response to the demands of history, he signed Decree 21 to change the name of the Ministry of Economy to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. From here, the Vietnamese Industry and Trade sector in general and the Nghe An Industry and Trade sector in particular began to open their glorious history.
Over the past 70 years, along with the flow of history,Nghe An Industry and Tradehas gone through many separations and mergers of the apparatus. However, regardless of the stage, with different names, Industry and Trade is still a multi-sector, multi-field, pioneering unit, affirming its important position in the country's economy, creating material wealth for society. Generations of cadres, workers, civil servants and employees of Nghe An Industry and Trade have fulfilled their tasks well, actively contributing to the cause of unification, construction and protection of the Fatherland, worthy of the important role in the cause of industrialization - modernization and economic development of the province.
In particular, in the recent period of 2008 - 2020, in the context of starting to implement commitments on joining the WTO with many opportunities and challenges, but promoting the achievements, the Industry and Trade sector continued to strive and many economic indicators of the sector achieved a good growth rate.

Industry is moving in the right direction
In order to achieve the industrial development goals set by the 15th and 16th Nghe An Provincial Party Congresses, investment in equipment and technological innovation in industrial sectors has been focused on, creating strong changes for the sector, contributing significantly to the economic growth of the whole province. The industrial production index has increased steadily over the years, with a breakthrough growth in 2011 and a fairly high increase in 2017 thanks to a number of large-scale projects completing investment and going into production.

In 2020, despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Nghe An industry still achieved high growth compared to many other localities in the country, with the IIP index in 2020 reaching 6.36%. In particular, the processing and manufacturing industry grew by an average of 16.90%, contributing the most to the growth of the entire industry; the mining industry increased by 1.21%; electricity production and distribution increased by 22.41%; wastewater and waste supply and treatment increased by 13.80%.
According to the assessment, industrial production in the period 2008-2020 grew higher than the average of the whole country and the region. The industrial structure continued to shift in the right direction, the proportion of industry - construction in the province's gross social product (GRDP) increased from 24.5% in 2011 to 33.5% in 2020. The internal industry structure has shifted positively towards rapidly increasing the proportion of manufacturing and processing industry, gradually reducing the mining industry.

Investment attraction activities have improved, attracting a number of large-scale corporations and projects, having a strong impact on the province's economy, which is an important premise to attract investors to Nghe An. The system of mechanisms and preferential investment policies, supporting investment in industrial development, infrastructure, policies supporting the development of small-scale industry and craft villages has been built and issued in a complete and increasingly synchronous manner, which has the effect of encouraging and promoting enterprises to invest in production and business.
Trade and export are bustling.
Phase 2008 - 2020commercial activitiestook place very vibrantly, goods circulating on the market were abundant and diverse, market management, inspection and control were strengthened. Thereby, contributing an important role to socio-economic development, connecting production and consumption, positively impacting the process of economic restructuring of the province.
In the period 2010-2020, the total retail sales of goods at current prices reached 338,899 billion VND, an average increase of 15.77% per year. Revenue from consumer services in 2020 is estimated at 7,422.1 billion VND, and other services in 2020 are estimated at 5,988.9 billion VND.

Nghe An province currently has over 5,000 enterprises, 55,000 households doing regular business in 298 markets, 23 supermarkets, over 65,719 stores, kiosks ensuring adequate supply of consumer demand and economic development. Trade promotion, consumption encouragement and expansion of domestic market, and implementation of the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods" have been effective.
The export sector has made significant contributions to the economic restructuring of the province. The total export turnover in the province has grown significantly from 386.3 million USD in 2010 to 1,110 million USD in 2020, achieving an average growth rate of 9.8%/year, of which the export turnover of goods in 2010 reached 168 million USD, and by 2020 it reached 810 million USD. The industry has proactively built a long-term business strategy with partners, along with many other solutions... to help some export items maintain stability and growth. By the end of 2020, enterprises in the province had exported goods to 130 countries and territories, which is a great effort of the industry, as well as enterprises participating in exports in the province.
Goal to become a fairly developed province
Under the leadership of the Party and the close and timely guidance of the Government, the Industry and Trade sector always holds a particularly important position in the national economy, managing many areas, having important significance for the development and international integration of the country as well as caring for the people's lives.
In the coming time, the Industry and Trade sector will focus on efforts to excellently complete its tasks, contributing to the completion of socio-economic development targets and the Resolution of the 19th Provincial Party Congress, developing Nghe An quickly and sustainably, striving to make Nghe An a fairly developed province in the Northern region by 2025, and a fairly developed province in the whole country by 2030.

Some tasks of the Industry and Trade sectorfocus on implementationin the coming period:
Industrial sector:Focus on developing a number of processing and manufacturing industries with high science and technology content and high technology applications. Develop supporting industries, green industries, energy saving and environmental friendliness. Form large-scale industrial production facilities, deep processing associated with value chains in economic zones and industrial parks. Attract investment in renewable energy projects, environmental friendliness; develop power supply infrastructure in accordance with planning and socio-economic development requirements.
Developing the processing industry of agricultural, forestry, aquatic products, food and beverage products associated with raw material areas to form a closed product value chain. Developing the pharmaceutical industry to exploit the potential of regional pharmaceutical raw materials.Western Nghe An. Develop the mining industry in the direction of increasing the application of high technology and deep processing to increase the mineral recovery coefficient and the efficiency of mineral resource use.
Commercial field:Continue to effectively implement the Central Committee's resolutions on international economic integration. Strengthen trade promotion, build and promote product brands, expand domestic markets and export local goods. Attract investment to develop trade infrastructure systems, diversify types of trade services in a civilized and modern direction. Rapidly increase export turnover, promote domestic market development, this is an important driving force for the province's growth. Focus on developing e-commerce, associated with traditional types of trade in line with development trends. Strive for an average growth rate of total retail sales of goods of 10 - 11%/year.

In recognition of its achievements, over the past 70 years of development and growth, the industry has been honored to receive many noble titles from the Party and the State: Third-class Labor Medal for Nghe An Trade Sector (1983); Second-class Labor Medal for Nghe An Trade Sector (1996); First-class Labor Medal for Nghe An Provincial Department of Industry (2000); Third-class Independence Medal for Nghe An Provincial Department of Industry and Trade (2011); Emulation Flag of the Government; Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister and many Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
