Railway industry reduces 30% of ticket prices for Thong Nhat trains

Vietnam Railways Corporation has just decided to reduce ticket prices by 30% on all Thong Nhat trains and apply a special discount program for customers who buy tickets 30 days or more in advance.

Accordingly, from August 5 to August 28, 2014, passengers buying tickets for Thong Nhat trains will receive a 30% discount compared to the current ticket price.

To buy this type of ticket, passengers must buy it 30 days or more in advance and it only applies to the distance from departure station to station (from 1,300km or more). At the same time, this program applies to passengers buying individual tickets, not to passengers buying group tickets and companies that have signed a contract to rent cars and trains and pay the full fare.

For passengers who purchase tickets many days in advance, when returning or exchanging tickets, a deduction of 50% of the ticket price is required.

Ms. Phung Thi Ly Ha, Deputy Head of Hanoi Railway Station, said that according to the decision of the Corporation, passengers who are social policy beneficiaries and buy tickets for a long time and meet all the above conditions will still receive a further discount after the 30% discount.

In addition, Vietnam Railways Corporation also reduced the price of sleeper tickets on all Thong Nhat trains running from July 5 to September 3, 2014, with a reduction of 5% to 17% compared to current ticket prices.

Specifically, the group traveling by train must travel on the same train, at the same departure station, and have a representative to resolve any issues that arise during the journey. The discounts will be 2%, 4%, 8%, and 10% for groups of 20-29 people, 30-39 people, 40-49 people, and 50 people or more, respectively. Particularly, from June 17 to July 31 and from August 29 to September 3, customers who buy group tickets will not receive discounts according to regulations.

Previously, in mid-June, Vietnam Railways Corporation also decided that passengers will not have to pay any fees when changing tickets and must meet 4 conditions: Ticket change time is 4 hours in advance for Thong Nhat trains running all the way from North to South; 2 hours in advance for express trains running all the way in the section; 30 minutes in advance for regular trains running in the section; ticket change has the same departure and arrival station; ticket change is only one time and the railway industry can arrange seats according to the passenger's request.

In addition, individuals who do not meet the above 4 conditions when returning or exchanging tickets will have 10% of the ticket price deducted for Thong Nhat and local trains, 20% of the ticket price for international trains; groups will have 20% of the ticket price deducted and must return tickets 24 hours before the train departs.
