(Baonghean.vn) -Ensuring timely transportation needs for local residents during the Lunar New Year holiday with attentive, civilized, and safe service, and transporting 100% of passengers back to their hometowns to celebrate the holiday with their families… is the goal set by the Nghe An Department of Transport for the Tet holiday.

It is projected that during the Lunar New Year holiday of 2013, passenger traffic will increase by approximately 10%, with a larger number of passengers traveling from the South and North to Nghe An than from Nghe An to other provinces. After the holiday, a large number of passengers from districts and towns will converge on Vinh to travel to other provinces and cities nationwide. Therefore, the Transport Department has organized a plan to promptly receive and transfer passengers and is currently focusing all available means of transportation to serve passengers returning home for the Tet holiday.

The city has two bus stations that will attract a large number of passengers: Vinh Bus Station and Vinh Market Bus Station. At these stations, some passenger transport routes will see a 4-6 fold increase compared to normal days, and in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), this will increase to over 500 trips per day with more than 12,000 passengers. Therefore, overcrowding is likely to occur. To overcome this situation, the bus stations will organize passenger pick-up and transfer in a rational manner. Before Tet, the Department of Transport will focus on transporting passengers from other provinces to Nghe An and from Vinh City to districts and towns within the province.

Transportation businesses at Vinh Bus Station are ready to promptly serve the travel needs of passengers.

Mr. Huynh Duc, owner of a fixed-route transportation business between Vinh and Hanoi, said: "My business will strictly comply with the requirements of Vinh Bus Station Joint Stock Company, which include not transporting more passengers than the regulated capacity, running on time, ensuring safety, providing civilized and attentive service, and serving passengers until the 29th day of the Lunar New Year." It is known that Vinh Bus Station Joint Stock Company expects to receive and transport approximately 420,500 passengers during the Tet holiday, and Vinh Bus Station has developed specific plans with transportation businesses to ensure passenger transport.

Mr. Pham Dinh Tram, Head of the General Planning Department of the Department of Transport, said: "One advantage for passenger transport during this year's Tet holiday is that although the number of passengers has increased, it is still being met promptly because the number of vehicles has increased by 5% and the number of seats has increased by 13% compared to last year's Tet holiday. Currently, an additional 30 vehicles and 430 seats have been added. These are new passenger transport vehicles with high load capacity, which will contribute to satisfying the needs of people traveling on routes during the Tet holiday."

Currently, the province has 950 fixed-route passenger buses and 942 taxis. These vehicles are being mobilized to serve people traveling during the Tet holiday, and transportation businesses have plans to deploy additional vehicles when passenger numbers surge. With efforts to meet the demand for cinnamon during Tet, the transportation sector is determined to ensure that no passenger misses their bus home for the holiday due to a lack of transportation.

The period for buses and bus stations to close for the Lunar New Year holiday is from 3 PM on the 29th day of the lunar month until the end of the 1st day of the lunar month. At Vinh Bus Station and Vinh Market Bus Station, 1-2 reserve buses will be available to serve passengers during the holiday. After the holiday, from 5 AM on the 2nd day of the lunar month, 68 buses will operate on intra-provincial and inter-provincial routes to Ha Tinh, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hue, and Da Nang. On the 3rd day of the lunar month, the bus stations will operate normally, serving all fixed intra- and inter-provincial routes, increasing to 250-315 trips per day.
