(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 4, Nghe An Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine held a seminar to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Veterinary Medicine's traditional day.

On July 11, 1950, President Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 125/SL on the prevention and control of livestock diseases. This is one of the first important legal documents to serve as a basis for directing the organization and implementation of veterinary activities over a long period of time. To recognize and evaluate the importance of the veterinary industry, on July 12, 2005, the Prime Minister issued a Decision allowing July 11 to be annually observed as the "Traditional Day of the Veterinary Industry".

Through the process of formation and development, Nghe An Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine has performed well its functions and tasks, notably achievements in the prevention and control of livestock, poultry and aquatic diseases, eliminating and controlling many dangerous animal diseases; diseases transmitted from animals to humans such as FMD, avian influenza, blue ear disease, rabies... have significantly reduced in the number of outbreaks, scale and duration of epidemic control.
Most recently, the African swine fever epidemic that occurred in 2019 and 2020 was controlled, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Department of Animal Health recognized the locality for its good and effective disease prevention and control.

Speaking at the seminar, comrade Nguyen Van De acknowledged, praised and congratulated the achievements that generations of cadres have made over the past years, contributing positively to the work of hunger eradication, poverty reduction and socio-economic development of the province; at the same time, he emphasized that in the coming time, the Animal Husbandry - Veterinary sector will have many opportunities but also many challenges.
Livestock and veterinary activities still face many difficulties due to both subjective and objective reasons such as weather, climate, geography, customs; changes in the organization of the veterinary industry, unit mergers, staff reductions, etc.
