At around 6am on April 23, Mr. Nguyen Van Tang, 52 years old, residing in Ly An hamlet, Hung My commune, Cai Nuoc district, discovered a leak at the gas pipeline from the biogas tank in the garden to his house, so he went to check. Seeing that her husband had been gone for too long without coming home, Mrs. Pham Thi Gieng, 51 years old, went out to check and found her husband lying in the middle of the road, so she shouted and rushed in to save her husband.

However, due to the strong air current, Mrs. Gieng also fainted and died. Many people in the same neighborhood who ran to help also fainted, including Mrs. Tran My Hanh, 35 years old, who also fainted and died with Mr. Tang and his wife.

Doctor Bui Duc Van, Director of Cai Nuoc Regional General Hospital, said: "In the incident, 8 people were suffocated, 3 people died including Mr. Tang, Mrs. Gieng and Mrs. Hanh, 5 people are being treated at the hospital, of which 1 person is in critical condition; 4 others have been able to talk and are out of danger.

Immediately after discovering the incident, the People's Committee of Ca Mau province established a delegation to visit and encourage, and at the same time support the families of the deceased with 5 million VND, the injured with 3 million VND, and request the Hospital to create the best possible conditions to care for the victims.
