More and more young couples are infertile in Vietnam.
The infertility rate of couples of childbearing age in Vietnam is 7.7%, of which about 50% are under 30 years old.
Specialist Doctor 2 Nguyen Thi Phuong Le, Head of the Infertility Department, Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, warned that the infertility rate has been increasing rapidly in recent years, especially among young couples.
According to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), the average infertility rate among couples worldwide is from 6 to 12%. In particular, the Asia-Pacific region has the lowest birth rate and the highest infertility rate.
According to United Nations data, in recent years, the birth rate of some Asian countries such as Vietnam, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Thailand, China, and Singapore has fallen below the replacement level.

A national study in Vietnam conducted in 2015 by the Central Obstetrics Hospital and Hanoi Medical University on 14,300 couples of childbearing age (from 15 to 49) in 8 provinces representing 8 ecological regions in our country, showed that the infertility rate of couples of childbearing age was 7.7%.
It is estimated that there are currently about one million infertile couples, of which primary infertility is 3.9% and secondary infertility is 3.8%. Notably, about 50% of infertile couples are under the age of 30.
Doctor Phuong Le pointed out that there are many causes of infertility. For example, in women, common causes are blocked fallopian tubes, ovulation disorders, uterine diseases and endometriosis, ovarian abnormalities, hormonal disorders...
In men, it is often due to abnormalities in sperm quality and quantity, genital infections such as orchitis, urethritis causing blockage of the vas deferens, hindering the conception process.
In addition, the working environment and living environment are modern factors that increase infertility, especially in young couples. Many people lack information and knowledge about reproductive health, so they do not know how to protect themselves. Many infertile people do not have access to reproductive support units to increase their chances of having children.
To prevent and reduce the risk of infertility, Dr. Phuong Le advises couples to practice monogamy to avoid infection with bacteria that cause sexually transmitted diseases and gynecological diseases that affect fertility. Do not have multiple abortions.
Avoid frequent stress because stress is the cause of hormonal disorders, making it difficult to conceive. Have regular gynecological check-ups every 6 months to detect early and effectively treat diseases that can easily cause infertility such as blocked fallopian tubes, genital infections, and uterine inflammation. Avoid harmful habits such as drinking alcohol, smoking, and frequent vaginal douching...
