(Baonghean.vn) - Responding to the national voluntary blood donation movement organized by Tien Phong newspaper, on January 25, the 7th "Red Sunday" program - 2015 took place in Vinh City.

Every year-end, hospitals are in a serious blood shortage. The blood reserve of Nghe An General Hospital currently has only about 500 units of blood, some types of blood only have 20 units left, while each day the hospital needs about 10 units of blood to transfuse to patients... Therefore, the fact that Nghe An youth enthusiastically responds to the voluntary blood donation movement at the end of the year is a very valuable act. Each drop of blood donated is a life that has the opportunity to return to life.

The 7th "Red Sunday" is being held in 18 provinces and cities across the country. Tens of thousands of union members, youth, students and blood donors have participated, with an estimated 15,000 units of blood collected, with Nghe An alone expecting to collect 1,000 units.

Seven years ago, Tien Phong Newspaper and the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion initiated "Red Sunday" to help overcome the serious blood shortage in hospitals during the traditional Tet holiday. The first Red Sunday in 2009 collected nearly 150 units of blood. From that small but meaningful beginning, today, after seven years and seven times of organization, Red Sunday has had the participation of many agencies, units, and schools across the country, and has been able to collect 100 times more blood than the first day. The achievements and contributions of Red Sunday have been recognized with the 2014 National Volunteer Award. That is the spirit of volunteerism, enthusiasm and kindness of the leaders, the Youth Union, the Student Union of many universities and colleges, and the union members, youth, and students. You are the core of Red Sunday.

From a small fire lit on a winter morning in 2009, today Red Sunday has become a big fire. In Nghe An alone, on the morning of January 25, more than 1,000 units of blood were collected, exceeding the set target.
