Trump's busy first day in office
Hours after being sworn in for his second term, US President Donald Trump immediately got to work, signing hundreds of executive orders, canceling many policies of the previous administration.
At 12:01 Eastern Time on January 20 (0:01 January 21 Vietnam time), Mr. Trump was officially sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. The ceremony took place in the Rotunda on Capitol Hill in Washington DC, under the direction of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts, witnessed by former Presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and 600 guests and other celebrities.
At the time of his inauguration, Mr. Trump became the oldest president in the history of the United States (78 years, 7 months, 6 days), surpassing the record of former President Biden. His return to the White House also marked Mr. Trump becoming the second person in American history to be elected to two non-consecutive presidential terms after 132 years.
According to CBS news agency, on the first day of his inauguration, Mr. Trump signed about 200 documents, including a series of executive orders, memoranda and presidential statements in front of a crowd of supporters at the Capital One Arena sports center and then in the Oval Office of the White House.
New White House Secretary Will Scharf revealed that Mr. Trump started by signing executive orders to cancel 78 policies of his predecessor, including 17 executive orders that Mr. Biden signed and issued this month, right before leaving office.
Among the new executive orders issued by President Trump are the pardons for about 1,500 people facing prosecution for participating in the riot at the US Capitol on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election; requiring former government officials to be "accountable for election interference"; and ordering the federal government to restore freedom of speech and prevent the government from censoring free speech.

Mr. Trump also signed executive orders withdrawing the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement and the Global Minimum Corporate Tax Agreement, as well as starting the process of withdrawing the country from the World Health Organization (WHO).
The White House leader also declared a national emergency at the southern US border with Mexico, imposed strict new restrictions on immigration and asylum, and announced that he would send more border guards.
Mr. Trump caused controversy when he passed an executive order suspending the granting of citizenship to individuals born in the United States and children of undocumented immigrants. According to CNN, this executive order is contrary to the provisions on birthright citizenship in the United States Constitution and can be blocked by the courts.
A new presidential order requires federal employees to return to a five-day work week, reversing the trend of increased remote work since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, another order states that the US government under Mr. Trump will only recognize two biological sexes, male and female, in official documents and documents, and ban transgender people from serving in the military.
President Trump also signed a national energy emergency to speed up permitting and significantly expand oil and gas exploration, rolling back environmental protections.
In addition, Mr. Trump also attracted attention with a special decree related to two iconic American landmarks. Accordingly, he decided to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and restore the name of Mount McKinley to the highest mountain in North America, Denali. On the evening of January 20, local time, Mr. Trump and his wife - First Lady Melania Trump attended the Commander-in-Chief Ball, one of three inaugural balls for the new White House leader. According to tradition, Mr. Trump and his wife, along with Vice President JD Vance and his wife, danced the first dance together to the melody of “Battle Hymn of the Republic”.
