After the first subject, Math is the second compulsory subject of the High School Graduation Exam. As predicted, the Math exam with the new structure is “not easy” for many candidates and has limited the situation of random circling and guessing.

Specialized school students still complain "difficult"

At the exam site of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, student Pham Anh Tuan, a student in the language class, said: I found the exam not too long, basic knowledge accounted for 70% and could be applied to solve the problems. The difficult questions were all in the short answer section, with many different answers, so I was not completely confident about the results of the test.

This candidate also said that this is the first year that the Math exam is implemented according to the new General Education Program with many different types of questions. Therefore, there is not much chance of answering questions by chance. The advantage of the new way of making questions is that it differentiates candidates well, if students really understand the nature, they will do well. Besides, the exam has many practical questions that make students interested in studying and doing the test.

With the same score, candidate Pham Thao Nguyen said: I found the test moderate but there were some classification questions that took candidates a lot of time to do, such as questions about spatial geometry and true or false answers. With this result, this candidate said that she got about 7 points and as a student applying for block D (Literature - Math - English), she was not really satisfied with the result.

One of the candidates who rated themselves as getting 9 points on this test is a Chinese candidate from class 12A1 - specialized in Mathematics. However, this candidate also said that the test is only easy to get points in the first part, in the form of multiple choice questions. From the second part, the right and wrong answers of the test begin to differentiate. Particularly in the third part, the short answer questions are all difficult questions, requiring high knowledge and application to be able to do well.

Differentiated exam, no high score

Stepping out of the exam room, Nguyen Van Long, at the exam site of the High SchoolMr. Son1 said: I think this year's Math exam closely follows the curriculum that we have learned. The exam consists of 22 questions divided into 3 parts, with the types of correct answers (A, B, C, D) and short answers. The first 12 questions are familiar types of questions that we have practiced a lot during our school years. From question 13 onwards, there is differentiation, requiring students to have a solid grasp of the knowledge. I am strong in Math, so I think the exam is quite suitable and I hope to get 8 points in Math.

Nguyen Khanh Linh, a student at Anh Son 2 High School, shared: This year's exam, I see a clear distinction between average and excellent students. For students with average academic performance, I think it will be easy to solve the first 12 questions. Questions 13 to 18 will be for students with 7-8 points, and excellent students can do up to question 22. With my academic ability, I hope to get 7 points in Math.

InThai Hoa town, different from the excitement and confidence after the Literature exam this morning, with the Math exam, some candidates "complained" that it was difficult because the exam had clear differentiation. Many candidates said they felt a bit regretful for not doing their best in the Math exam this afternoon.

Nguyen Trong Minh Khue, a 12th grade student, shared: For me, the Math test was moderately difficult. Out of 22 questions, I am sure I got about 13-14 correct, but I am not sure about the rest. I predict that my score will be about 6 or 7 points.

Independent candidates satisfied with Math exam

On the afternoon of June 26, at the independent exam site held at the Do Luong Continuing Education Center, after completing the Math exam, many candidates were quite satisfied with their work.

Candidate Pham Trong Dat from Anh Son district said he was able to complete 42 questions and only had difficulty with the last few questions, which had high differentiation. Candidate Nguyen Van Nam from Do Luong district also happily said that he had completed 49 questions: I am not confident with question 23 because I do not remember the formula clearly.

Commenting on the Math exam, teacher Pham Thi Lien - Love Much Center, who has many years of experience reviewing for 12th grade students, said: This year's exam is similar in structure and content to the sample exam.
However, the new exam format and new scoring method have high differentiation. Therefore, students who previously could get 7 points now mostly only get around 5 points because they cannot guess like before.
In the 3 parts of the test, the difficult questions are concentrated in the short answer section. In the multiple choice questions, the test is easy to score, but there are still some questions related to 11th grade knowledge that students can get wrong if they do not review carefully. Students are likely to get wrong in the trigonometry questions, which are 11th grade knowledge. The true or false part is not too difficult for students with a good level.
According to teacher Pham Thi Lien, with this year's exam, students who score 8 points or higher must have good knowledge and careful test-taking skills; students can get a difference in score even by just 1 point. However, she also believes that if students study well and are familiar with the types of exercises, they can still get a score of 9.5 or higher, or even a score of 10.

According to the report of the Department of Education and Training, after the second exam, the whole province had 56 candidates absent without reason. No candidates violated the exam regulations. No other unusual incidents occurred. The exam took place normally, safely, and in accordance with regulations.
