(Baonghean.vn) -Marriage is a momentous occasion, a source of great happiness for the couple and their parents. Therefore, it is fitting that everyone attends the wedding to congratulate and share in the joy of the newlyweds. However, nowadays, many places organize lavish and elaborate weddings, causing inconvenience and expense for both the hosts and the guests.

The custom of asking for a marriage proposal among the Thai ethnic group in northwestern Nghe An province.

My hometown is not far from the district center and is no longer as poor as it used to be. Many people, knowing their fortunes have changed, have transitioned from working as farmers to becoming businesspeople and traders... However, wedding customs haven't improved at all; in fact, they've become even more complicated than before.

My friend got married, and the whole village rejoiced. According to tradition, weddings in the countryside last three days: the day the tent is set up, the main ceremony, and the third day when the tent is taken down. Food and supplies are prepared in advance. People come and go, busily preparing the feast, creating a lively atmosphere. The problem is that the feast lasts three days, and while there's a lot of food, there's a lack of proper storage. On sunny days, all sorts of measures are taken to prevent spoilage. When the food starts to smell, the cooks add or remove ingredients to avoid waste. The villagers are honest and straightforward; they try to eat everything, reheating leftovers and saving them for the servants who clean up on the last day. And so, some people end up getting food poisoning or diarrhea...

The bride and groom's houses were only a short distance apart, yet the young people blasted both loudspeakers at full volume, blaring blare all night long. They believed that a wedding had to have live music to be considered a big one. Many families were very poor but still tried to hire live music so they wouldn't be outdone by others... The young people kept singing and talking loudly on the speakers for days, because they thought that was how a joyous occasion should be!

There have been many directives from the central and provincial governments regarding organizing weddings according to new customs. However, in reality, nothing has changed. The higher the position and power, the bigger the wedding. Most people want a simpler, less expensive ceremony, but no one dares to speak up; they simply follow the tradition of "doing it the way the village does."

In my opinion, weddings following the new lifestyle can be organized if: Party committees and authorities at all levels are determined to direct and strictly discipline Party members and civil servants who do not comply with the directives and regulations of the Central Government and the province regarding weddings and funerals according to the new lifestyle. The district's cultural and information center, in coordination with Party committees, authorities, and mass organizations such as the Fatherland Front, Women's Union, and Youth Union, will intensify propaganda and mobilization efforts. At the same time, they will help local communities organize a few "model" weddings in a simple format, combining tradition and modernity, suitable to the circumstances of each family.

Residential areas should incorporate modern wedding customs into their community regulations and always instruct the people to strictly adhere to them, but first and foremost, officials must set an example, and the people will follow.
