(Baonghean.vn) - The program "Keeping the Dream" contributes to raising people's awareness of complying with the mandatory regulation of wearing helmets that meet national standards for children, thereby minimizing the consequences of traffic accidents for children.

On the afternoon of June 28, at the Nghe An Department of Transport, the working delegation of the National Traffic Safety Committee had a meeting with the Standing Committee of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee to survey the implementation of the program of giving helmets to students in the province in the 2019-2020 school year.

Attending the meeting were representatives of the Office of the Ministry of Transport; Department of Transport; Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, Department of Education and Training.

Responding to the call of the National Traffic Safety Committee, a major car company has coordinated to implement a program to give helmets to students entering grade 1 in the 2018-2019 school year nationwide.

In Nghe An, in October 2018, this program presented 74,154 helmets that met national technical standards to first grade students in the 2018-2019 school year at all primary schools in the province.

At the meeting, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee also reported to the delegation on the results of the implementation, and at the same time proposed difficulties and shortcomings such as the number of helmets issued up to this point is still lacking (more than 500), the helmets are quite small in size, many students in the class cannot wear them; requested the National Traffic Safety Committee and sponsors to compile statistics on the number of students entering grade 1 close to the opening time so that the data is accurate and close to reality...

The representative of the National Traffic Safety Committee highly appreciated the implementation results of Nghe An. The shortcomings and recommendations of the province will be recorded and summarized by the delegation to make appropriate adjustments to help better implement the program in the coming time.

- In the first 6 months of 2019, in Nghe An, there were 102 traffic accidents, killing 71 people, injuring 67 people; damaging 58 cars, 72 motorbikes, 5 electric motorbikes, 02 locomotives, 05 other vehicles; Compared to the first 6 months of 2018, there were 14 fewer accidents, 8 fewer deaths, and 23 fewer injuries.

- There were 12 traffic accidents involving children, killing 7 children and injuring 14 children.

- In the first 6 months of 2019, the Traffic Police Department (Provincial Police) handled 3,287 cases of violations of helmet wearing regulations; there were no cases of violations of helmet wearing regulations for children.
