Nghe An: 42% of cattle herd are crossbred

(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An currently has more than 428 thousand cows, of which 42% have been crossbred with high weight cow breeds.serving livestock farming in the direction of goods.

Kieu Phuong Company Limited's Australian cattle farm (Tan Ky) has a scale of 1,000 cows, currently has nearly 500 cows, including nearly 100 female cows, each year producing about 100 crossbred calves to supply on-site breeding stock for the company raising commercial beef cattle.

Nghe An currently has more than 727 thousand buffaloes and cows, of which the herd has more than 428 cows. Although it is the locality with the largest herd of cows compared to other provinces in the country, on the contrary, the output of fresh beef cattle for sale is only over 14 thousand tons/year, ranking 5th in the country. The reason is that the quality of the herd is not high, most farmers raise local yellow cows, small in size.

With the province's support policy on the "Golden Cattle Improvement Program", in recent years, Nghe An's cattle have been gradually crossbred with high-weight cattle breeds: Laid Zebu... Up to now, the average crossbred cattle rate in the whole province has reached 42%, and in the delta region alone it has reached 75%.

The Mong cow breed has a relatively large size, suitable for highland conditions. Scientists encourage continued development in the highland districts of Nghe An.

In the coming time, the province's livestock authorities will identify key beef cattle breeds for the whole province and each region, aiming to increase the annual output of beef cattle for sale, increasing income for breeders.
