Nghe An: Arrested 19 subjects gambling in the form of cockfighting for money

On the evening of June 30, Con Cuong District Police announced that they had successfully broken up a gambling ring in the form of cockfighting for money, arresting 19 suspects.

Previously, from mid-June 2022, through the work of grasping the situation and reflecting on people's feedback, Con Cuong District Police discovered a number of subjects taking advantage of the mountainous terrain with few people passing by in Bong Khe commune, Con Cuong district to organize gambling in the form of cockfighting for money.

The number of people participating in gambling at the cockfighting arena is quite large, estimated to be between 15 and 20 people. During the gambling process, the subjects assigned people to carefully guard to avoid detection by the authorities.

Realizing that this was a very sophisticated mobile cockfighting arena that was causing disorder and insecurity, Con Cuong District Police mobilized forces and means to establish a special project to fight it.

After a period of monitoring, at 2:30 p.m. on June 25, at the tea hill area in Tan Lap village, Bong Khe commune, nearly 30 officers and soldiers of Con Cuong district police suddenly raided and caught 19 subjects gambling in the form of cockfighting for money.

The investigation team also seized and temporarily detained 7 fighting cocks, more than 90 million VND in cash, dozens of motorbikes and various types of mobile phones.

According to the statements of the subjects, this cockfighting spot was organized by Nguyen Van Anh (born 1985), residing in Con Cuong town, Con Cuong district. When people with chickens wanted to bet on cockfighting for money, they would call Anh to find chickens to pair up with.

Then, Anh will text the location to the participants of the cockfight. On average, for each pair of cockfights, Anh will collect 300,000 VND from the winner. Through that, Anh illegally earns from several million to tens of millions of VND every day.

Currently, the project is continuing to be fought and expanded.
