Nghe An: Discovered about 1 ton of white powder suspected to be drugs

(Baonghean.vn) - Dozens of white sacks were thrown away on the side of the road at the salt fields in Quynh Thuan commune, Quynh Luu district. Inside was a white powder suspected to be drugs, weighing an estimated 1 ton.

Speaking to Nghe An Newspaper reporters, Colonel Nguyen Manh Hung - Deputy Director of the Provincial Police Department said that after appraisal, the white powder seized in Quynh Thuan commune, Quynh Luu district was identified as crystal meth.

"Initial information reported by the brothers is that 3 subjects are being detained and 700kg of crystal meth is being seized," Colonel Hung said, adding that the case is being further investigated and expanded by the police. Initial information shows that all 3 subjects being detained are residing in Nghe An.

Previously, at the salt field in Quynh Thuan commune (Quynh Luu), people discovered dozens of white sacks thrown on the roadside. Many curious people opened them to see that inside was a white powder, not salt, so they reported it to Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station and the police.

Upon receiving the news, on the morning of April 17, Quynh Luu District Police, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department and Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station arrived at the scene, temporarily detained the sacks and brought them to Quynh Luu District Police headquarters for further investigation.

Previously, in March 2019, Nghe An Provincial Police established a special project chaired by the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, in coordination with Quynh Luu District Police to combat and destroy this drug trafficking ring.

Police are currently hunting for a number of fugitives. Nghe An Provincial Police leaders are directly in Quynh Luu to direct the investigation of this case.

On the afternoon of April 15, the Ministry of Public Security's Special Investigation Team, Ha Tinh Provincial Police presided over and coordinated with Nghe An Police to search and arrest a group of people who were buying, selling, and transporting drugs at a house in lane 161, Phung Chi Kien Street, Ha Huy Tap Ward, Vinh City.

At the scene, authorities arrested four suspects and seized nearly 700 kg of drugs hidden in 30 loudspeaker boxes.
