(Baonghean.vn) - "Nghe An needs to continue to focus on issues that the EC will be interested in controlling in combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU)" - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien suggested during a meeting with the People's Committee of Nghe An province.
This morning, the working delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development led by Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien had a working session with the People's Committee of Nghe An province on the implementation of the projects.recommendationEC on combating IUU fishing, animal husbandry and animal disease prevention.

Previously, the working group inspected the implementation of EC recommendations on combating IUU fishing at Lach Quen fishing port - Quynh Luu district.
After 3 years of implementing Directive 45 of the Prime Minister and implementing the EC's recommendations on combating IUU fishing, Nghe An has focused on directing the implementation resolutely and achieved many positive results; basically overcoming the shortcomings pointed out in previous inspections.

Fishermen have been proactive in notifying before arriving at or leaving fishing ports; complying with the regulations on recording and submitting fishing logs; Most fishermen have proactively installed equipment to monitor fishing vessel journeys, complying with regulations on fishing as well as complying with inspections by competent authorities; Fishing vessel monitoring has been gradually improved; Nghe An has also actively implemented the Fisheries Law.

However, through review, it is shown that the compliance with legal regulations by fishermen is still not high, with 20-30% of ships leaving port without declaration, 30-50% of ships not submitting fishing logs...
At the same time, strengthen the control of fishing vessels, review the issue of granting fishing licenses; promptly update information into the fishing vessel database to facilitate management; strictly handle violations of IUU fishing activities...
“All of the EC’s recommendations basically revolve around the issue of fishing vessel management and exploitation. Nghe An needs to make stronger changes, focusing on the issues that the EC will focus on controlling,” emphasized Mr. Phung Duc Tien.

Representatives of the Agriculture and Rural Development sector also briefly reported on some of the results achieved by the sector in 2020. The growth rate of agricultural, forestry and fishery production value of Nghe An reached 4.96%. The total export value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the year is estimated at over 315 million USD. By the end of 2020, Nghe An had a total herd of 766,000 buffaloes and cows, nearly 1 million pigs, and 27 million poultry. Veterinary work has been directed with great attention, and livestock diseases have been basically well controlled; However, the African swine fever situation is still complicated.
