Storm No. 10 with strong winds, raging for a long time, has swept away a large amount of waste on many roads in Nghe An. Currently, the government and people are focusing and actively coordinating to collect and fix the problem to ensure environmental sanitation as soon as possible.

According to reporters, after 2 days of storm No. 10 passing, many roads in Truong Vinh, Thanh Vinh, Vinh Loc, Vinh Phu wards... are still littered with fallen trees and piles of household waste, blocking the way.

Faced with that situation, localities have simultaneously mobilized to clean up. From ward officials, police forces, soldiers to organizations, sanitation workers and people all joined hands to contribute.

In Truong Vinh ward, in the past 2 days, the forces and people have continuously cut branches, cleared large tree stumps, and collected garbage to create pathways for vehicles.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phong - Vice Chairman of Truong Vinh Ward People's Committee said: "The workload after the storm is huge, almost every road has fallen trees and garbage. We have to mobilize maximum local forces, coordinate with specialized units, prioritize cleaning the main roads, then deploy to clean up alleys and residential areas."

In Vinh Phu ward, thanks to the active support of units and residents, by September 30, the fallen trees on the main road had been basically handled, ensuring the movement of people and vehicles. However, it will still take many more days to complete the remaining work, because there is still a lot of household waste and branches and leaves in the small alleys.

These days, the workload of the environmental sanitation workers is huge. After storm No. 5 at the end of August 2025, they had just finished collecting thousands of tons of garbage, but now they continue to face the huge amount of waste caused by storm No. 10.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, an environmental sanitation worker, shared: “We are used to the stressful work intensity, but we have never had to clean up after two big storms in such a short time. Fallen trees had to be cut into pieces with a saw before being transported away, and scattered trash had to be collected at each location. We have been working through the night for the past two days. Although we are so tired, everyone encourages each other to try their best, because if we delay, the environment will be affected even more.”

According to Nghe An Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company, in the first two days after storm No. 10 alone, the unit collected about 1,000 tons of waste each day, many times more than normal days.

Mr. Pham Huu Thang - Head of the Company's Organization and Administration Department said: We have mobilized 100% of our workforce with more than 600 workers, 100 specialized vehicles and 15 additional rented vehicles, sharing on duty on key routes. The work is carried out continuously day and night. Compared to storm No. 5, this time the collection time will certainly be shortened. The reason for this is that the proactive awareness of the people has clearly increased, many households have cleaned up the garbage within their family, gathered it in the right place, helping to improve the progress significantly.

Mr. Thang also said that the smooth coordination between local authorities, environmental enterprises and the community is the key factor for the remediation work to take place more quickly.

To make the collection of waste and trees after the storm more effective, the authorities recommend that it should be implemented in a synchronous manner: Prioritize cleaning up main roads to ensure traffic, then handle waste in small alleys; classify waste right from the collection stage with trees, wood, soil and rocks separately, and household waste separately, to facilitate transportation and treatment; arrange additional temporary collection points to avoid local congestion...

However, the solution is only a short-term one. In the long term, it is necessary to adjust the tree planning to adapt to climate change: Choose tree varieties with deep roots, compact canopy, good wind and storm resistance; periodically prune to reduce the risk of breakage.

In addition, it is necessary to add more garbage collection points in urban areas to avoid littering; at the same time, increase socialization and mobilize the community to participate in preserving the landscape and protecting the environment.
