(Baonghean) - Demonstrating the local government's involvement in the summer activities movement for young people, in Hung Tan commune (Hung Nguyen district), the Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune has held the role of Honorary Chairman of the Commune Youth Council for many consecutive years.

In Hung Tan commune, Hung Nguyen district, not only do the people participate in summer activities for children and teenagers, but the Party committee and the government also truly "roll up their sleeves and get to work". Proof of this is the fact that the Chairman of the Commune People's Committee also takes on the role of Chairman of the Commune Youth Council.

According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Thuc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung Tan commune, the chairman of the People's Committee of the commune assuming the "position" of honorary chairman of the Youth Union Council has become a "tradition" maintained for many years in Hung Tan commune.

Every year, after the students' summer break and in early July, the youth union organizes summer activities and practices ceremonies to prepare for the Scout Ceremony Competition on the occasion of the National Day on September 2nd throughout the commune. Each hamlet will send a team to participate in the competition, which includes: Scout ceremony competition; camping competition; cultural performance and sports competition.

The Party Committee and the local government of Hung Tan commune attach great importance to this work, so the Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune assumes the role of chairman of the Youth Council, and the commune establishes a steering committee to oversee and support youth activities in conjunction with the Youth Union. In each hamlet, the hamlet head is assigned to be the head of the steering committee for this work.

The Steering Committee assigns specific tasks to various organizations and individuals to support and mobilize young people, union members, children, and even villagers to actively participate in Youth Union and Young Pioneer activities. The leading roles are played by the Youth Union, Women's Association, Veterans' Association, and village secretaries/leaders.

Thanks to this, Hung Tan commune has mobilized the entire political system, helping the youth movement in the commune to always develop strongly, leading the locality in this work for many years.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Thuc stated: “The Party Committee and the commune government not only lead and directly participate in summer activities for young people, but also pay attention to implementing youth union activities during the summer and direct and support other activities throughout the year, especially during holidays and Tet. Because we understand that improving the quality of youth union and team activities is also about creating a source of cadres and building movements for the locality in the future.”

"In the short term, gathering young people to participate in youth union and team activities during the summer break will help them avoid social vices, prevent accidents and injuries, and simultaneously supplement soft skills for social integration. Thanks to this, for many years, Hung Tan commune has not had any instances of students dropping out of school, or any social vices or accidents involving children, such as drowning, during the summer break."

Thanks to the attention and involvement of the Party Committee and the government, along with the active participation of the Youth Union's cadres, the percentage of commune-level units in Hung Nguyen district that organized summer activities and Scout ritual competitions effectively increased from 30% in 2012 to 100% in 2016.

Regarding preparations for the 2017 summer activities and Scout ceremony competition, Mr. Cao Anh Duc, Secretary of the Hung Nguyen District Youth Union, said: “The District Youth Union has completed the skills training for the commune-level Youth Union officials; and handed over the organization of summer activities to the localities.”

The document emphasizes that the activities of the Youth Union branches at the commune and village levels will focus on implementing summer activities for young people such as: competitions in Scout rituals; activities commemorating the War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27th; training and warnings on preventing accidents, injuries, and drowning for young people… so that Youth Union members and students participating in activities in the locality can experience meaningful and beneficial summers of childhood.”
