Nghe An focuses on promoting grassroots library movement activities to develop reading culture.
(Baonghean.vn) - On November 29, Nghe An Provincial Library held a conference to summarize grassroots movement activities in the Nghe An provincial library system in 2023, and set out directions and tasks for 2024.
In 2023, the library system from the province to the grassroots level has closely followed the assigned tasks, organized many activities and achieved encouraging results. Notably, 5,329 new reader cards were issued at the Provincial Library (an increase of 226.45% compared to 2022); 6,900 district, city, town and grassroots library cards; served 318,541 readers at the Provincial Library (an increase of 167.65%) and served 480,000 mobile readers; circulated 920,000 books and newspapers for mobile service.

During the year, the Provincial Library successfully advised on organizing the 5th Nghe An Province Reading Culture Ambassador Contest in 2023 and the Nghe An Province Online Book Promotion and Introduction Contest in 2023.
However, grassroots movement activities in the library system still face many difficulties. Facilities, headquarters, and equipment for grassroots libraries are generally poor, with limited resources, books, and newspapers, and are not attractive to readers.
Staff working in district and grassroots libraries still have many concurrent jobs, do not have time to study and improve their professional qualifications, and cannot meet the requirements of new tasks in the era of information technology development.

On the other hand, due to the lack of a regular and stable subsidy regime for those in charge of libraries and grassroots bookcases, the enthusiasm of this team is not encouraged.
Most of the libraries and bookcases do not have a regular source of funding to supplement new books and newspapers. Funding for supplementing books mainly depends on contributions from the people, which are not regular and continuous, so the operational efficiency of these libraries is still low.
At the conference, representatives of district, city, town and grassroots libraries proposed solutions to promote grassroots library movements and develop reading culture, notably surveying, supplementing and circulating books and newspapers suitable to regions and the needs and tastes of each reader, especially ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
Along with that, investing in library software for book processing and book management on computer data to better serve library work and move towards development.digital libraryworks alongside traditional libraries.

On this occasion, the Department of Culture and Sports awarded Certificates of Merit to 4 collectives and 8 individuals with outstanding achievements in grassroots library work in Nghe An province in 2023.
