Nghe An and the whole country are concentrating all their efforts to eliminate malaria.

For World Malaria Day 2025, Vietnam has chosen the theme “Specializing in eliminating malaria: Increasing investment; Innovation; Determination to act”. Nghe An is determined to join the whole country in fulfilling this task.

On April 25, in Vinh city, the Central Institute of Malaria - Parasitology - Entomology (Ministry of Health) organized a rally in response to World Malaria Day 2025 and the Conference on Mobilizing Resources for Malaria Prevention, Control and Elimination in Vietnam.

Attending the rally and conference were Dr. Hoang Dinh Canh - Director of the Central Institute of Malaria - Parasitology - Entomology; representatives of departments and offices of the Ministry of Health; representatives of international organizations in Vietnam; leaders of the Department of Health of 26 provinces nationwide.

On the side of Nghe An Department of Health, there were Dr. Le Thi Hoai Chung - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Director of the Department of Health; Pharmacist Tran Minh Tue - Deputy Director of the Department of Health.

World Malaria Day (April 25) was adopted by the 60th Session of the World Health Assembly in May 2007 as a day to recognize global efforts to effectively control malaria. The purpose of this event is to raise global awareness of malaria - one of the most dangerous infectious diseases and has caused millions of deaths each year, especially in low-income countries.

Since 2007, World Malaria Day has become an occasion for the international community to focus resources, launch communication and propaganda campaigns and take specific actions to control and eliminate malaria in high-risk countries... For World Malaria Day 2025, Vietnam has chosen the theme "Concentrating all efforts to eliminate malaria: Increasing investment; Innovation; Determination to act".

Speaking at the rally, Dr. Hoang Dinh Canh - Director of the Central Institute of Malaria, Parasitology and Entomology stated: In recent years, Vietnam has made much progress in controlling malaria. The whole country has 48 provinces that have been recognized as malaria-free.

Vietnam has achieved the goal of the National Strategy for Malaria Prevention and Elimination in Vietnam for the period 2011 - 2020 and orientation to 2030, which is: Controlling the malaria incidence rate to < 0.15/1,000 people; Malaria mortality rate to < 0.02/100,000 people by 2020 and eliminating malaria by 2030.

In the first 4 months of 2025, the whole country detected only 24 cases of malaria parasites, of which 18 were imported malaria cases (accounting for 75%), a decrease of nearly 82% compared to the same period in 2024.

Dr. Hoang Dinh Canh suggested: All levels, sectors and localities need to increase investment in the system.medical, invest in scientific research, apply advanced technologies and innovative models, strengthen action and coordinate with community participation to prevent, eliminate and prevent the return of malaria.

Speaking in response to World Malaria Day, Director of the Department of HealthNghe AnLe Thi Hoai Chung stated: Nghe An has been recognized as malaria-free by 2022. However, the province still has the problem of foreign malaria parasites entering from workers returning from malaria-endemic areas.

In the coming time, Nghe An will continue to effectively implement key solutions to prevent and eliminate malaria, which are: Increasing investment, proactively arranging resources for malaria prevention; improving epidemiological surveillance capacity; maintaining readiness to respond to epidemic situations; renewing thinking, being flexible in communication and health education; promoting the application of information technology to prevent epidemics; mobilizing the participation of all levels, sectors and all people to join hands in preventing malaria.

After the rally, the Conference on mobilizing resources for malaria prevention, control and elimination in Vietnam was held with the participation of 90 delegates, including leaders of Departments and Bureaus of the Ministry of Health, specialized Institutes on malaria prevention and control; representatives of international organizations, social organizations supporting malaria prevention and control in Vietnam; representatives of the Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control of the provinces.

This conference is organized annually by the Institute of Malaria - Parasitology - Entomology and is financially sponsored by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria through the Project "Regional Initiative to Prevent and Eliminate Artemisinin-Resistant Malaria" for the period 2024-2026.
