Nghe An: Man stabs neighbor to death because he suspects his wife of having an affair
(Baonghean.vn) - Suspecting that his wife was having an affair with another man, Hoang Dinh Nam secretly followed her. Seeing his wife getting out of the car, Nam rushed forward and fatally stabbed the man driving the car.
On the morning of September 27, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Hoang Dinh Nam (born 1963), residing in Yen Khanh block, Nam Dan town, Nam Dan district, for the crime of "Murder".
According to the indictment, around mid-2018, Nam suspected his wife of having an affair with another man, so he attached a tracking device to his wife, Tran Thi Hai,'s motorbike and installed software on his phone to track her.

On the morning of March 28, 2019, after Ms. Hai went to work, Nam checked and saw his wife parked in a parking lot in Hamlet 11, Nam Giang Commune for a long time. Nam thought that Ms. Hai parked her motorbike there and someone came to pick her up, so he decided to follow her to catch her in the act. Nam rode his motorbike to buy camouflage clothes and a knife (fruit knife) to the grave of Ms. Hoang Thi Loan.
To avoid being discovered by his wife, Nam changed into a new set of clothes on the way and put the knife in his pocket. When he arrived, he saw his wife's motorbike parked at the parking kiosk but no one was there. Nam stood across the street and watched.
At around 1:00 p.m. the same day, Mr. Bui Thanh D. (born in 1954), residing in Mai Hac De block, Nam Dan town, drove a car carrying Ms. Hai from Vinh city. Suspecting that his wife was in the car, Hai followed on a motorbike.
When they reached km3+600m of provincial road 539, in hamlet 11, Nam Giang commune, Ms. Hai got out of the car, Nam immediately ran to open the back door, and got in the car. At this time, the car was running, Nam did not know that the driver was Mr. D.
From behind the driver's seat, Nam leaned forward, his left arm around Mr. D's neck, his right hand pulled out a knife and stabbed Mr. D in the stomach. Mr. D pushed Nam's hand away, looked up and said, "You dare?". At this point, Nam realized it was his neighbor, so he stabbed Mr. D repeatedly. The victim tried to open the car door and fell onto the street, dying on the spot.
The car drifted freely for 116m and crashed into a tree on the side of the road. Nam then used a knife to slash Ms. Hai’s neck and hands. After committing the crime, Hoang Dinh Nam fled. At 4pm the same day, Nam went to the police station to surrender.
The forensic examination report of Nghe An Provincial Police concluded that the cause of death of Mr. Bui Thanh D. was due to "severe circulatory failure due to multiple penetrating wounds to the heart, liver, and intestines."
In court, the defendant admitted to his crime and expressed remorse. Explaining his crime, Nam said he followed his wife because he suspected her of having an affair. “I only threatened her, I did not intend to kill her,” he said. In the presence of the victim’s relatives, the defendant turned around and apologized.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant committed a crime of hooliganism. In this case, the defendant had mitigating circumstances such as good character, first-time offender, being a war invalid, and having family members with revolutionary contributions.
Considering the case as a whole, the court sentenced Hoang Dinh Nam to 17 years in prison for “Murder”. The defendant was ordered to compensate the victim’s family 210 million VND (minus 55 million VND already paid).
