Mr. Ho Duc Luyen - Chairman of Quynh Yen Commune People's Committee said: The locality has 25 hectares of concentrated shrimp ponds and about 8 hectares of scattered ponds. Before entering the shrimp farming season, the locality assigned agricultural officers to regularly go to the area to propagate to people to proactively treat water and ponds according to the correct process.
Many households have boldly invested in using new shrimp farming technology using waterproof tarpaulins to line the bottom of the pond. This crop, 6 households have invested in buying waterproof tarpaulins, with an area of about 16 hectares. According to Mr. Bui Xuan Truc - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture of Quynh Luu district, shrimp farming in the district earns hundreds of billions of dong each year. But there are also crops that lose tens of billions of dong due to disease.
The method of spreading tarpaulins on the pond bottom has brought positive results in disease prevention and control and is convenient in water treatment, so in the district, about 150/465 hectares have been implemented using this method.
Shrimp farmers in coastal areas are actively treating water sources, renovating ponds, repairing electrical systems, water fans... to release the first crop of shrimp in 2017. Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, in hamlet 11, Quynh Yen commune, Quynh Luu district confided: "The most feared thing in shrimp farming is disease. Hundreds of millions of dong are poured into ponds, if an epidemic occurs, everything will be gone.
Therefore, disease prevention and pond treatment before releasing the fry are important steps. Learning from the experience of a friend in the area, this year, he decided to invest 600 million VND to buy waterproof black tarpaulin to line the bottom and banks of the pond.
This type of tarpaulin is hard, thick, and welded very firmly, so it can be used for 10 years, but the price is up to 29,000 VND/m2. Knowing the high cost, his family still borrowed capital to invest in the hope of limiting diseases for shrimp. With this way of spreading tarpaulin, shrimp farmers do not need to treat the pond by sprinkling lime and drying the bottom like before.

In Hoang Mai town, shrimp farmers in communes and wards are always proactive in preventing and fighting diseases for shrimp, especially in the process of treating ponds and water sources before releasing the fry. However, for many reasons, shrimp diseases still occur every year.
The solution of using waterproof tarpaulin to line the bottom of the pond has been applied by many households and has brought real results. In the first shrimp crop of 2017, the whole town had about 20% of the total area applying the technology of lining the bottom of the pond with waterproof tarpaulin.
In Dien Chau district, the use of waterproofing technology for pond bottom lining has been implemented for several years. Mr. Le The Hieu - Head of the district's Agriculture Department affirmed: Using waterproofing technology for shrimp farming on sand has exploited the potential of the district's vast coastal area in recent years.
Due to the limited epidemic, people are now continuing to invest, nearly 100% of shrimp farming ponds in the district apply waterproof lining technology to sustainably develop shrimp farming on sandy land.

Mr. Dang Van Minh - Deputy Head of the Provincial Veterinary Department recommends: To prevent disease in shrimp, before releasing the fry, shrimp farmers need to treat ponds according to technical procedures, under the guidance of technical staff.
Select fish with clear origin, certified by competent authorities for quality and release fish according to the seasonal schedule of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Monitor daily to promptly detect unusual phenomena and handle according to the process.
Shrimp farming must ensure safety and cleanliness in all stages. In addition to paying attention to the pond, it is necessary to control the feed according to the process; take care of the water source, periodically disinfect the shrimp pond directly once every 5-7 days; supplement the shrimp with vitamin C and minerals every month with the dosage and usage recommended by the manufacturer.
During the farming process, prevent shrimp, crab, clam and other crustaceans from entering the pond. Veterinary staff at the grassroots level regularly check the pond with households and recommend that households take samples for periodic testing to have effective disease prevention and control measures.
