(Baonghean.vn) - The increasing demand for cars among people, especially in Vinh City, has made traffic congestion more serious.

According to the Nghe An Department of Transport, in 2017, the number of road vehicles in the province increased sharply. Of these, 8,739 cars were newly registered, an increase of 17.7% compared to the previous year, bringing the number of cars under Nghe An management to nearly 59,000.

In 2017, Nghe An also had more than 100,000 newly registered motorbikes, an increase of 8.2% over the previous year, bringing the total number of motorbikes in the area to nearly 1.5 million.

In particular, the demand for electric motorbikes in Nghe An has increased significantly over the past year. Specifically, nearly 17,000 new vehicles were registered, bringing the total number of these vehicles to nearly 52,000 and an increase of more than 31% compared to 2016.

The number of newly registered cars is mainly concentrated in urban areas such as Vinh City. In 2017, an average of 700 new vehicles were registered each month in this area.

In Vinh City, there are currently more than 30,000 cars of all kinds and more than 250,000 motorbikes and electric bicycles. Compared to the population size, the rate of households in Vinh City owning cars is very high compared to many neighboring cities.

In addition, there are 93 fixed bus routes with arrival and departure points in Vinh City with nearly 600 vehicles serving nearly 9,000 passengers per day.

Vinh City currently has 8 bus companies with 273 vehicles operating on 18 routes, serving more than 5,000 passengers per day. In this area, there are also 17 taxi companies with nearly 1,200 vehicles serving 15,000 passengers per day.

The increase in the number of cars is also proportional to the traffic congestion in this city. In recent years, on some main roads and intersections, local congestion has occurred frequently, especially during rush hour.

The number of cars is increasing, while the infrastructure has not been invested in synchronously, causing Vinh City authorities to face many traffic "problems". In particular, the lack of parking lots causes people to park their cars on sidewalks and roads.
