On the afternoon of August 10, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to deploy the Project on organizing winter crop production in 2020. Mr. Nguyen Van De - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc - Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection chaired the conference.

Prioritize safe production and goods
This winter crop, Nghe An strives to plant over 37,635 hectares of various winter crops, including 21,500 hectares of corn, 1,500 hectares of peanuts, 12,500 hectares of vegetables and beans of all kinds...
Unlike many years, this year, some areas of rice and summer-autumn crop land cannot be produced due to drought, which will be favorable for expanding the area as well as planting winter crops early.

However, according to the assessment of the North Central Hydrometeorological Center, the weather in the winter crop is still very complicated and unpredictable, while the irrigation system in some places has not met the requirements for drainage, thus affecting the planting season as well as the fear of waiting for the flood to end before proceeding with winter crop production.

The general spirit that is highly unified is: Based on the plan and specific conditions of each locality, to build a plan to develop advantageous agricultural products associated with the consumption market to increase income value; production in the direction of corn for grain, green forage for cows and harvesting fresh corn; vegetable plants produced according to VietGAP standards and applying high technology to ensure product safety and traceability of product origin and peanut plants for seed production for the spring crop, in which, especially promoting the expansion of vegetable acreage of all kinds, especially high-value vegetable plants.

Good drainage, minimizing damage caused by floods
In his concluding remarks at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van De - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development stated: In order to produce the winter crop effectively, agricultural units and localities need to have solutions to promote the application of scientific and technological advances, safe production processes according to VietGAP and organic standards as well as quickly multiply effective models, maintain and develop areas according to VietGAP standards, and at the same time have solutions to promote production linkages and product consumption.

The Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development emphasized: With the characteristic of being frequently affected by floods in the winter crop, in addition to solutions on pest control and crop timing, localities and the Irrigation sector must calculate and have a planting plan close to the actual situation to both minimize damage caused by floods and ensure high productivity and not affect the 2021 spring crop planting plan.
Pay special attention to irrigation, drainage, and flood control, and develop proactive drainage plans to prevent local flooding for crops, with particular attention paid to peanuts, vegetables, and some corn and vegetable growing areas on double-rice land during the rainy and stormy season.
