(Baonghean.vn) - Due to the serious shortage of teachers, the Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Education and Training have just issued a document advising the Provincial People's Committee to recruit an additional 5,000 teachers.

The Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Education and Training have just sent a document to the Provincial People's Committee to propose to the Ministry of Home Affairs to add 5,000 positions, of which 3,000 positions are needed for primary school and 2,000 positions for preschool. However, this number, if calculated by ratio, still does not meet the set criteria, especially when currently, Nghe An's preschool level can only arrange 1.6 teachers/class (instead of 2 teachers/class).

According to the 2020-2021 education development plan recently approved by the Provincial People's Committee, in the coming school year, the number of students at four levels of education: preschool, primary, secondary and high school (including high school supplementary education) is 837,507 students, an increase of nearly 30,000 students compared to the 2019-2020 school year. The number of students increased steadily at all levels, and the highest was at high school.

Currently, the total number of cadres, teachers and employees of Nghe An education sector is nearly 50,000 people. The shortage of teachers is still serious, especially at preschool and primary levels.

Therefore, in the next school year, the sector will reduce the teacher ratio at secondary level to 1.8 teachers/class (currently 2 teachers/class) to transfer or prioritize staffing for primary level to ensure 1.4 teachers/class (currently 1.3 - 1.35 teachers/class) as at present.

Although the number of students increased, the number of schools in the province decreased due to many school mergers. Of which, preschool schools decreased from 553 to 548 schools, primary schools decreased from 527 to 495 schools, and secondary schools decreased from 401 to 399 schools.

The merger has helped the province reduce 36 separate schools. However, the number of separate schools in preschool, primary and secondary schools is still high with 1,082 separate schools.

From the next school year, teaching 2 sessions/day becomes mandatory for primary school.
